Tuesday 7th October 2014
The demonstrator for this evening was Mrs. Valerie Guest from Darlington and the title of her demonstration was ‘Autumn Odyssey’.
Valerie started the evening with a display ‘Farewell to Summer ‘ Using a willow arch and shades of pink with Alstroemeria, roses gerberas and carnations. This was followed by a design in traditional Autumn colours. Next she whisked us away on a cruise with the foliage forming the outline of a boat in full sail, which was complimented with anthuriumns roses and gerberas.
Valerie suggested that one of the pleasant things about autumn and the darker nights was sitting by a log fire, which was the inspiration for her next creation using red foliage with red roses, gerberas and carnations to give a warm and welcoming design.
Another aspect of autumn and the dark nights was to enjoy the clear starry nights, which she depicted through the next arrangement using a tall dried seed head which she had sparkled completing the arrangement with lilies, anthuriums and gerbera in shades of lilac.
Her final design gave a nod to the onset of winter in which she had ‘frosted’ the foliage and used white chrysanthemums, bouvardia, and roses, complementing the design with sparking wire molded into the shape of leaves. All the designs went into the raffle in the beautiful containers she had used. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Gerrard and the evening closed with tea and coffee.
