Opening session for 2018. March 13th
It was good to see such a strong turnout and to welcome guests and new members. Our demonstrator for the evening was Mrs. Alyson Christie from St. Andrews who entertained us with her title ‘A Touch of Artistic License’.
Her first design was in a tall cylindrical container to represent a champagne flute, which she decorated with bobbles to represent the bubbles of the drink. She added ivy leaves, which she had wired, then white eustoma, carnations, anthuriums, and gypsophila. She then complemented the design with a second placement.
The second design was built around the painting ‘Starry Night’ by Van Gogh. The design was in the continental style using black gravillea, carnations, tulips, gerberas, roses and eustoma.
Alyson used music to complement her work and entertain her audience. The next creation depicted an underwater theme, using mixed foliage with purple eustoma and orchids, which she had wired individually, adding a second placement and sea shells to create the atmosphere.
A Chinese wall hanging was the inspiration for a design using mixed exotic foliage with orange lilies, gerberas and carnations and orange chincherinchees. To end she filled a basket with mixed foliage, purple eustoma, pink tulips, and white and yellow gerberas.
Mrs. Hilda Anderson gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the ladies present.
